What is enzymatic bioexfoliation?

Your skin naturally sheds dead cells, but the process is slow — leaving the surface rough, dry, or dull. Exfoliation speeds this up. Mechanical scrubs work by friction, acids dissolve dead cells chemically, and enzymes do it biologically.

Enzymatic exfoliation uses enzymes to break down the “glue” between dead skin cells so they detach faster. The result: smoother, fresher-looking skin that absorbs other products more effectively.

Comparison with AHA acids

AHA fruit acids and fruit enzymes deliver similar benefits — they both exfoliate and smooth the skin. The key difference is in how they work. AHAs require a low pH to be effective, which can make them less suitable for sensitive or reactive skin. Bromelain works without lowering the pH, making REFINER ENZYME a gentler alternative for anyone who doesn’t tolerate AHAs well.

How To Use

REFINER ENZYME is used as a facial mask. Pour a small amount of powder into the palm of your hand, add a little lukewarm water and mix into a paste. This activates the enzymes. Apply to face, leave on for 2-3 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water. Always rinse before the product dries completely on your face (which can be too drying on the skin).

We recommend evening use 2x a week. If your skin is very rough, you can also use REFINER ENZYME 3 times a week.
